What to read when it comes to Indian authors?
The choices are almost endless. You can pick from classical to modern authors and I can assure you that you will be satisfied.
Siddharth Sanghvi – he is a modern Indian author who became very popular these days. He's writing in English and he is translated in many other languages. He was born in 1977 so this makes him only 33 years old. His most famous book is “The last song of Dusk”. He wrote it when he was only 22 years old. This book was his key to success, because with it, he won several prestigious literature awards like “Betty task award” in 2004 and “Man Asian prize” in 2009. Many people who read its books says, that they are wonderful, very well written and exciting. A combination between drama, history, philosophy, love and friendship.
Phoolan Devi – Today this woman is a member of the Indian parliament but when she was younger her life wasn't that good. She was abducted by bandits in 1979. The bandit's leader tried to rape her but she was protected by the second man in the gang's hierarchy. After that she became his wife, but soon afterwards she killed him and showed his dead body to the members of the gang. Furthermore she became a leader of this bandits.
The book of Mrs. Devi describes her life and the young girls road from the bottom to the top of the society.
Of course this was just a peak to the Indian literature and if you look well enough you will find many more interesting books.
