The Indian National Animals

When you go to India one of the things that will make you biggest impression will be the cows on the streets. They are everywhere. The people are not hurting them and even manage to live with them normally.

So why is the cow sacred in India?
The reason is simple. The Indians consumes milk every day. The cow's milk is equated to mother's. Most of the families in India owns a cow. They become part of the family. The animals got their own names and personalities. The people in India thinks that every cow has a unique character and respect them as humans. In Hindu mythologies a cow named Kamadhenu can fulfill wishes. Many reforms in India advocated non-violence on animals and of course especially on cows. The cow is also used as a vehicle because of it's strength and calm temper.

The Indian national bird: the Peacock. For most of us this bird is a symbol of beauty and grace. For Indians it is even more. On the subcontinent the peacock is protected by religious and parliamentary statutes. The Indian Wildlife Act from 1972 fully protects the bird from any kind of bad treats.

National animal.
The tiger is the national animal of India. The lord of jungles as the Indians call the tiger is the biggest cat on earth. It is a combination of strength and grace the tiger is among the most respected animals in India. Almost half of the population of tigers on earth is located in India. The Royal Bengal tiger is native to India. It can be found almost everywhere in the country. Nevertheless the rate of the population is alarmingly decreasing. Today in some of the reserves, specially created to protect tigers, there are no tigers at all.
