India has a reputation as one of the most powerful nations, mainly due to foreign relations. The country has a long history of allying with many countries. The relations with Russia have formed a step considering the history of India. The country chosen not to align with the Soviet Union during the cold war but even nowadays it continues to have very strong military relations with the Russians.
The most significant are India's relations with Pakistan. The Maharaja, Singh and the Muslim prime minister of Pakistan chose to join India temporarily. The Standstill agreement was still in process. After several years on the battlefield the two countries started to negotiate. Prime ministers of India and Pakistan meet each other several times to discuss matters. In 2004 the hot line between the countries was renewed. Also India stated that Pakistan is its “ Most favourite country”.
India's relations with China are also important. Series of high level visits between the two countries have led to the progress relations. The country today looks for opportunities to its political and financial bonds with the United States, European Union, Japan, Israel, Latin America, and the Association of South-east Asian Nations. Also the foreign relations of India include incorporation with the African Union, the Commonwealth and Arabian states.
In 2003 India recognized Tibet as a part of China. The country is sending troops to the UN and also asking for a seat in the UN India's foreign relations enabled the nation to strengthen its foothold in the arena of world politics.
