Indian Fruits

There are more than 60 different fruits which grow in India. Some of them are native and some of them are not.
Mango tree

Maybe the most important and most popular Indian fruit is the Mango. It is also the Indian national fruit. Yes, the Indians have a national animal, national sport, national bird and why not a national fruit.I thought that some simple fruit just can not be that important for a whole country but I was wrong.

Mango is not "just a fruit" for the Indians, it is a main source of living for some people. There is a village called Dharhara, where when a girl is born her father plants a mango tree. It was just a tradition to celebrate the happy event but today it is way more than that.It evolved from just a way to celebrate in a profitable investment which allows the family not to worry about the wedding gifts of their daughter. Usually the girls in this village got married when they become 18 years old. By this time the trees that had been planted on the day of their birth are already productive. A small mango orchard is valued more than $4000 every season so this old tradition is appeared to be paying off very well. Today the villagers plant not only one but as many trees as they can.

Another Indian fruit is the Bael fruit. It is the size of a baseball with very hard skin. It has a very nice taste but however it is mostly eaten because it's medical qualities. The pulp of this fruit can be used as a detergent so it has a multiple usage. The Bael fruit is native to India and it is grown in the Central and Southern parts of the subcontinent. Other Indian fruits are Cherimoya, Soursop, Bilimbi and many more.
