Hawa Mahal Palace

It is located in Jaipur. This is the main city and capital of Rajasthan (one of the states in India).

Hawa Mahal

The palace was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh more that 200 years ago. The main design of the building looks like the crown of Lord Krishna. This was idea of the architect of the structure – Lal Chand Usta (usta means craftsman). The palace is also known as “The palace of wind”. It is purposely built for the women in the royal family. They had to be able to see all the processions on the street without being seen by anybody. This was the purpose of the small windows of the building. The women had the chance to examine the daily life of the normal citizens.

The palace is part of the main royal palace. It contains five floors. The structure was built of pink sandstone and white lime. If you had the chance to see it today, it looks just majestic as 200 years before. Not many things can compare to the beauty of this palace and it's greatness, the locals say.

The Wind Palace

The building has 953 windows. They all are facing the street towards the palace. The name of the palace is directly connected with these windows. A huge amount of wind circulates through them even in summer and this is where the name came from. There is no steps for reaching the palace. It can be only reached by ramps. Maybe this was made to make easier the access for the ladies.

Today the palace is a famous tourist spot. Many Indian and international films were shot at the place.

As a capital of Rajasthan and second biggest tourist spot in India, the city is well connected by all means of transport. The nearest airport is “Indiara Ghandhi international airport”. Along with that a bus services and a train services are available.
