Taj Mahal - a Symbol of Eternal Love

Today Taj Mahal is known with one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. It is described as the “passion of an emperor's love” because it was built by emperor Shah Jahan from the Mughal dynasty in the memory of his second wife Mumtaz Mahal.

The story is quite interesting and started when Jahan's wife was still alive. She made a commitment with her husband that he has to build the Taj and visit it on the anniversary of her death. Bond on his promise to the love of his life the emperor ordered the building of the Taj Mahal to be started and so 20 000 Indians were employed for the job. The masterpiece was designed by Ustad who was an Iranian architect. The workmanship was so beautiful and perfect that people say the Taj Mahal was started by giants and it is finished by the finest jewellers in the world. After the death of Shah Jahan he was buried next to his wife in the Taj's chamber.

The monument was designed to provide different views of the beautiful woman. The main gate is like a big veil, covering the woman's face. The Indian tradition stated that the veil should be lifted gently so the beauty of the bride can be fully revealed.

Nowadays Taj Mahal is like a sparkling jewel in moonlight. It changes its colour during the daytime, for example the monument is pink during the sunrise and golden when the moon is shining. This design was made to show the changing mood of the woman.

Now the people have different views of the Taj Mahal, but they can not deny that it is a fine and a beautiful masterpiece of eternal and pure love.
